Occasionally you hear about an airlining mishap, or an outright plane crash, and it always gets the anxiety about traveling up for a bit, but when it happens in your own backyard it can be very disconcerting.

Yesterday's mishap closed down San Francisco Airport and diverted all of the incoming flights to the Oakland Airport. I've been to both of those airports so many times I've lost count. It does hit you harder when it happens in places you're familiar with.

I'm flying to Portland in October. I may be on a plane for business before that as well. Eep!

- In other news, I continue to train like a maniac for the Portland Marathon on October 6th. But I recently discovered a setback to my training. My sports massage therapist, a woman who's a magician at what she does and the reason I can still run, let alone walk, is leaving California this year. I know I would not have been able to complete some of my marathons without her help, and she's been invaluable to me as a training advisor. I have considered asking her to stay. I've also considered beggining and pleading with her to stay. But given California's astronomical high cost of living I don't know if that's a fair thing to do. In any case, it's a big blow to my running pursuits to lose her.

- The mornings in the Bay Area have, as of late, been cold, cloudy, and windy. Hard to remember it's summer when you have to rake up 500,000 leaves dressed in a hoodie and long pants. :P
