So I'm in my second week of my taper, and I'm experiencing some pretty typical taper madness symptoms. The most stark effect is that my sleep is waaaay off. I keep falling asleep and waking up at bizarre times of the night. I'm not getting much sleep, but that's to be expected.
(If you're wondering what th' heck I mean by a taper, check out this link!)
I'm also being a worry wart about my upcoming marathon performance, and I'm also hungry all of the time. I'm trying to stay on top of my diet by not eating ten pizzas covered with donuts, but I'm also trying to eat steadily, knowing that my body is recovering and healing up from all of the hardcore marathon training I've been doing. I made the mistake of not replenishing myself enough before the Oakland Marathon earlier this year, and I don't want to make that same mistake again.
- Asides from running around in a marathon, I'm very much looking forward to my trip to Portland. If I had to live in a US urban area other than the SF Bay Area, I'd like to live in Portland. I'm looking forward to wandering Powells, hitting the Waffle Window on Hawthorne Street, and paying no sales tax. (!) I also have friends up there, friends who fled the Bay Area for Portland because they couldn't hack the high cost of living around here anymore. It will be nice to see them again.
- In other news, I am patiently waiting for potential work from thee Oakland A's who are going to the playoffs. Since the playoffs schedule has not been definiteively set I have not yet heard anything, but the regular season will soon be over and I might get some shifts working at playoff games. For bigger games, the A's have been known to draft office personell to be ushers for crowded games. I might get to see a World Series game in person! That is, when I'm not telling drunks to get off of the stairs.
