Of all the movies and television shows out there, the one that comes the closest to representing what my life was like back in the 80's was The Young Ones.
Back then there were tons of movies and TV shows about young people, but all of those fictional young people had things like their own apartments, and apparently no money worries whatsoever. Reganomics shoved all of us youngin's into hovels where we were forced to deal with fifty roomates and intolerable situations. The Young Ones was a breath of fresh air and how!
Being a lifelong resident of thee SF Bay Area and a refugee from the clubbing days of Eighties SF, I always said that if someone were to direct a film about my life, it would have to be Terry Gilliam, or David Lynch, or maybe John Waters. Rik Mayall could have easily done it as well. He was an icon to all of as throckers, Punks, Rivetheads, artiste's, and general outcasts back in th' day.
