I discussed this topic earlier with fellow LJer alice_curiouser. I wouldn't be surprised if A&E did go out looking for backwoods rednecks who hunted ducks, and they found them, but they were probably intelligent and decent people who didn't act foolish, so when they couldn't find what they wanted, they invented the "reality" that they really wanted, and dressed up a buncha preppy golfers. So yeah, the entire show is a total fabricated fraud.

About Duck Dynasty, I've never watched any of those shows (the only reality shows I watch are competitions, like Survivor and Top Chef and Project Runway) and I've never understood these themed reality shows, they always seem so fake to me, I don't understand why people enjoy them.

But I watch so little TV now, outside of football I'm watching like 1-2 hours a week, I am not even keeping up with my DVR. And football will end soon and I'll probably go back to 1-2 hours a week.

There are reality shows that are grounded in at least some reality. But this, this is ridiculous!

The rushing of conservatives to defend that guys comments is even more ludicrous. They're basically cheerledaing homophobia and racism.

Never watched Duck Dynasty - seemed entirely too stupid.

Enjoyed all the other schtuffs - especially the review of "How to Avoid Huge Ships." Apparently this a problem? Are land-locked states exempt from this menace?

OMG read the reviews on How to Avoid Huge Ships. They're hilarious! For example, this one:

"I am a huge ship. Imagine having an entire book devoted toward actively avoiding you and your kind. I have always been bigger than other ships - and yes, I have endured years of being moared in the distance, never being able to enter the shallower bays, requiring tugs to guide me in - but now THIS! Mr. Trimmer, you sir, should be ashamed!"
